Canine Good Citizen

This class is designed for those dogs that have completed an introductory course in obedience and know the material covered in the Basic Good Manners Class.  Building on the lessons taught in Basic, this class will emphasize:  performance of all commands with multiple distractions, stronger dog attention skills in the presence of distractions, interaction with other dog/handler teams, and longer stays with multiple distractions.  AKC Canine Good Citizen Test will be administered during the final class.

Starts: Monday, July 12th, 2010      *All passing students will receive an AKC CGC Bandana.

Time: 7:30 p.m.

Tuition is: $120 for 6 weeks 1 hour sessions  *Tuition includes cost of CGC Test

Must have completed a Basic Good Manners Class or have permission from Instructor

Conformation Handling

If you want to learn the elements that will help you show your dog to their best in the conformation ring, this class is for you.  Topics covered include:

Critiquing your dog's physical conformation, Understanding proper canine anatomy, Keeping your dog's attention, The stand for examination, Mental and Physical Conditioning of your dog, Ring procedure and protocol, Proper gaiting speed for your dog, Show ring gaiting patterns; the down and back; the triangle and the L, Courtesy turns, Free baiting and standing naturally

Starts: Tuesday, July 13th, 2010  

Time: 7:30 p.m.

Tuition is: $100 for 6 weeks 1 hour sessions

Beginner/Intermediate Rally

Rally is a sport in which the dog/handler team has to successfully complete a timed course of 12-22 stations which involve basic obedience commands.  The object is to demonstrate a strong dog/handler bond and the dog’s willingness to work.  The Beginning level is on leash.

Time: 7:00 p.m.

Tuition: $100 for 6 classes 1 hour sessions

For students who have taken 2 sessions of Rally, tuition is $95

Advanced & Excellent Rally

Rally is a sport in which the dog/handler team has to successfully complete a timed course of 12 - 22 stations. The Advanced and Excellent levels are off leash.  Must have completed at a MINIMUM, Basic and Advanced obedience training and completed Basic Rally. Coursework for Advance and Excellent Rally and Ring preparation for Novice Obedience, Advanced, and Excellent Rally competition. We will be stressing good dog attention, targeting, new AKC rule changes and non-regular Rally classes as well as proper footwork. (Must have Rally Novice title)

Time: 8:00 p.m.

Tuition: $75 (be prepared to plan course, set up and tear down for class)

6 one hour sessions, each week one student will be responsible for the rally course design and layout.  Class will critique course each week.  When you enroll, please note if you are interested in first class course layout.

AKC STAR Puppy/Basic Good Manners (dogs must be 1 year or under)

This class is designed for the beginner dog/handler with little or no formal obedience training.  The goal is to give each handler a foundation in the basic principles of animal learning.  This class will stress those commands that are necessary for a dog to be a great companion, in addition to common problems such as  jumping up, pulling on their leash and coming when called.  Strong dog attention will be stressed.  Commands covered include:  sit, down, stay, wait, watch me, let’s go, and off/leave it.  Walking politely on leash using a “Let’s Go” command is taught instead of a strict heel.

Time: 7:00 p.m.  FIRST CLASS NO DOGS, Orientation only and pick up class materials. 

Tuition is: $120 for 7 weeks 1 hour sessions

For dogs over 16 weeks of age whose owners want to teach their best friends how to be well behaved family members and have good social skills in public.

Beginner/Intermediate Pet Therapy

There are many types of pet therapy and animal assisted therapy.  This class will acquaint owners with these various types of therapy and the training necessary for both dog and handler.  Successful completion of basic obedience training is a prerequisite Dogs must have some advanced obedience training.  Completion of the Basic skills necessary to complete the Canine Good Citizen test are also helpful.  Requirements to pass the Delta Pet Partners test will also be covered.  Familiarization with scenarios encountered in pet therapy visits will be covered as well.  Pet therapy is an excellent way for you and your dog to give to those who are lonely, aged or needing the comfort of unconditional love and acceptance.  For those dogs with good obedience skills, no aggression or shyness.  Must be good with people and other dogs. Explore the possibilities of visiting children, the elderly, hospice patients, reading to children and many more forms of pet therapy.  Tuition includes class materials and bandana.

Ring Readiness Novice & Open Obedience

The class is for fine tuning ring performance skills for Novice and Open obedience exercises and overcoming ring jitters.
